On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 8^th International Workshop on Pulmonary Functional Imaging, it is my great honor and pleasure to invite you to our 2017 workshop in collaboration with the 16^th Annual Meeting of the Korean Society of Thoracic Radiology. The inaugural meeting of the International Workshop on Pulmonary Functional Imaging (IWPFI) was held in Philadelphia in 2002 to serve emerging clinical needs for improving diagnosis and assessment of various lung diseases by developing novel image based approaches of lung functional analysis. Subsequent meetings were followed in Awaji Island, Heidelberg, Boston, Madison and Edinburgh with active participation of international research groups. IWPFI 2017 will be held March 24 to 26 in Seoul, South Korea and promises to be a great opportunity to showcase pulmonary functional imaging research in the rapidly developing Asia Pacific region, facilitate the exchange of information, and improve pulmonary functional imaging research around the globe. The Program is made up of special lectures on the diagnosis and treatment by Pulmonary Functional Imaging and world-renowned scholars and doctors in each sector will be invited to speak about their remarkable achievements and findings and to share their expertise. The dynamic capital of South Korea and the industrial and cultural hub of Northeast Asia, Seoul is also a city of breathtaking natural beauty. With the Han River flowing through its heart and mountains rising proudly around it, Seoul is a major metropolitan city with a rich historic and cultural heritage. I am confident that this workshop will be informative and stimulating for all attendees, and I hope you can support the upcoming event with your interest and participation.
